The Oldham Band gained 2nd place in the 2nd Section National Finals at Harrogate. Principal Cornet player Michelle Lane came away with the best instrumentalist trophy to complete a very successful weekend for the band.
The band were drawn number 6 out of 17 bands in the second section and played a very commendable performance which was enjoyed by the adjudicators for the day, Dr Robert Childs and Ray Farr.
The band soloists were excellent, particularly Michelle Lane who fully deserved the prize for Best Instrumentalist. Another special mention though most go to Rick Lloyd, our solo trombone player who did a sterling job for the band on what was an extremely difficult part.
This is the fifth time in a row the band has competed at the National Finals and has still yet to walk away with that elusive first place.
Next year the band will be competing in the 1st Section at the Regional Area at Blackpool and will be even more determined than ever to qualify for the Finals so that we can come back to Harrogate next year for another shot at the first place!
