The Oldham Band (Lees) won the Pontins National Title for the 3rd time in 4 years today.
After crediting MD, John Collins, with what was tantamount to an almost forensic approach in the delivery of all the detail required - the band lifted the 3rd Section cup for the first time.
In what some would consider a not so good draw (playing 3rd out of eleven bands after Wellington Telford withdrew) the band gave an excellent performance of Horovitz’ Sinfonietta.
A misleading contest piece, Sinfonietta may seem to some to be something of an easy piece of music to play. However, upon further examination it quickly becomes clear just how deceptively difficult it really is - and after lots of very hard work all round the band managed to give exactly what was required on the day.
